Iraq's Debt Canceled

I'm no genuis, but isn't this kind of a big deal?

But the bigger question, what does it mean? For us, especially? Will this affect us at all, if any?

In Honor of an Idol

I know I am disgustingly late in writing this, but I just wanted to write something about the passing of Tim Russert.

He died on June 13 at the age of 58, and political journalism will never be the same. The only thing I can picture right now is Tim holding that whiteboard during the 2000 election that exclaimed, "Florida Florida Florida!" and the excitement that exuded from this great man through our television sets to us.

He was one of the very few, good journalists that we have on television today. Granted, he was known to lean Democratic, but no one, conservatives and democrats alike were safe when they showed up on "Meet the Press" on Sundays. Apparently Tom Brokaw will be filling in for him, but it will still be empty. No one can replace him. The loss that the media suffered on June 13 is great, and they will be scrambling for awhile to gain their footing again.

I only hope that Russert prefers his view from up above this November.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Russert. A great journalist and man like you don't come around very often. You will be greatly missed, but your work and your legacy will live on.

Forseeable Future

"The utter collapse of this Profoundly criminal Bush conspiracy will come none too soon for people like me... The massive plundering of the U.S. Treasury and all its resources has been almost on a scale that is criminally insane, and has literally destroyed the lives of millions of American people and American families. Exactly. You and me, sport — we are the ones who are going to suffer, and suffer massively. This is going to be just like the Book of Revelation said it was going to be — the end of the world as we knew it."

Please Let This Be It

So, today's the Indiana and N.C. primaries...and hopefully a frontrunner from the Democratic party will FINALLY be apparent. But, most likely not.

187 delegates are at stake for Obama and Clinton.

From CNN today:

"Judging by the numbers, Obama is the front-runner. The Illinois senator leads in pledged delegates and in states won, and is also ahead in the popular vote, if Florida and Michigan are not factored into the equation. Those states are being penalized for moving their primaries up in violation of party rules.

In all, only 404 pledged delegates remain to be chosen, and Tuesday's total of 187 makes it the biggest single primary day left. Clinton would need to win 70 percent of the remaining pledged delegates to catch up with Obama." ...to put it into perspective.

Scott, tell your state to get it together.

Real Time

Ok, so I know I've been really lazy lately and have just been posting things from other places, but I AM trying to finish my graduate degree, no big deal.

So, here's the closing monologue from Bill Maher April 18. Once you read you'll know why it's worth sharing. Enjoy.

"Referring to voters who America has left behind economically as "bitter" isn't an insult. In fact, it's a compliment, acknowledging that they're smart enough to understand what's happening to them.

The hopeful, now those are some idiots.

So, let's separate the bitter - my people - from the idiots. If you think the Democrats are going to take away your Bible, you're an idiot. If you think they're going to take away your gun, you're an armed idiot. And if you think they're going to take away your gun and give it to a Mexican to kill your God, you're Bill O'Reilly.

Now, at the end of last week when Barack Obama ignited the "bitter-gate" scandal, you would have thought that he had scaled Mount Rushmore, dick-slapped Jefferson in the face--and spray painted "God damn America" over Lincoln. But, he wasn't lying. The truth is that religion and guns and hating gays and immigrants, are crutches that people lean on. So are fast-food, crystal meth and child beauty pageants, but we don't have time to tackle all of America's addictions in one night.

So, let's focus on the big thing. That the people who claim to be the "non-elitists," are the ones who constantly shift tax burdens from the people who fire you, to you. John McCain voted to repeal the estate tax, voted against raising the minimum wage, has no health care plan, and is fine with keeping the working class in Iraq for a hundred years. But, he's a real "man of the people."

And the president went to Harvard and Yale, and inherited your country from his dad. But, he's not an elitist because he can neither read nor write.

What does it take to label someone "elitist" these days anyway? They wear shoes? They don't buy their groceries at the gas station? Their dog has a name and their truck doesn't?!

You know who is bitter in America? I am. Because shit-kickers voted twice for a retarded guy they wanted to have a beer with, and everybody else had to suffer the consequences!"

Zing!

go, go, GO!

From Maureen Dowd's New York Times Column today:

"Before they devour themselves once more, perhaps the Democrats will take a cue from Dr. Seuss’s 'Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!' (The writer once mischievously redid it for his friend Art Buchwald as 'Richard M. Nixon Will You Please Go Now!') They could sing:

'The time has come. The time has come. The time is now. Just go. ... I don’t care how. You can go by foot. You can go by cow. Hillary R. Clinton, will you please go now! You can go on skates. You can go on skis. ... You can go in an old blue shoe.

Just go, go, GO!'"

Eve of PA

From the State House News Service this week:

"Illinois Sen. Barack Obama remains ahead of Sen. Hillary Clinton and could well be on his way to the nomination. But there’s a sense that Obama has stumbled and Clinton backers believe she still has a chance. Pennsylvania has a population of 12.4 million with a higher median age than the nation as a whole, a higher percentage of white residents and a lower percentage of Hispanic residents, and a significantly lower percentage of foreign-born residents than the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau."

I bet Clinton wins tomorrow, but Obama will go on to win the nomination.
